A global fresh produce marketer and distributor with operations across multiple growing regions needed to formalize their enterprise-wide strategic planning process and build a framework their leadership team could execute against for the next five years.

  • The Challenge

Despite nearly 15 years of industry growth, the company had never built a formal strategic plan. Leadership had strong vision but lacked a structured, inclusive process for translating that vision into prioritized objectives, measurable KPIs, and an actionable roadmap, one that could align a large, cross-functional team and a global supply chain.

  • The Approach

I started by conducting a comprehensive landscape review and a structured round of stakeholder interviews, talking with leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners to understand the company's strengths, constraints, and strategic priorities. From there, I facilitated an in-person two-day planning session with the executive committee, using a structured set of exercises to develop and pressure-test strategic pillars, define aligned objectives, and establish measurable KPIs. Following the session, I led the development of the written strategic plan, translating the team's direction into a clear, organized document with defined timelines, resource considerations, and an implementation roadmap.

  • The Impact

    • [Specific deliverable—quantify where possible. E.g. 'Delivered a 30+ page, five-year strategic plan organized around six pillars, each with 10–12 objectives, defined KPIs, and assigned ownership.']

    • [Strategic or organizational value created. E.g. 'Aligned executive leadership and cross-functional teams around a shared strategic direction for the first time in the company's history.']

    • [Process or capability outcome. E.g. 'Built a repeatable strategic planning process the company can apply in future planning cycles.']

    • [Business differentiator or competitive outcome. E.g. 'Positioned the organization to proactively respond to market headwinds and prioritize investment with greater clarity and confidence.']
